World Cup Bound! Third Times A Charm

Post Header - World Cup

It is now official! We are going to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as official ticket holders. This is a big relief, and probably keeps us out of unnecessary trouble or hassle with scalping. We didn’t get tickets for the quarter finals match, but were fortunate to get two games in Port Elizabeth on June 21st and 23rd. Surprisingly the tickets were a mere $20 each. We couldn’t choose a seating category during the application process, probably because they have yet to be assigned since they are still building the stadium.

World Cup Ticket Success Port Elizabeth - South Africa

One thing I did notice was that more tickets seem to be available for Cape Town at Green Point Stadium. Ideally, we would have preferred to see a match in Cape Town, easily the number one destination in South Africa. After doing a little research I’m really stoked about seeing Cape Town in person, and taking in the view from atop Table Mountain.

After we couldn’t get tickets for Cape Town, it was really a toss up between the two other coastal cities hosting matches, Durban and Port Elizabeth. In the end, it really came down to proximity, Port Elizabeth being about 15 hours shorter on the very popular Baz Bus route.  A bus from Cape Town, lying on the southern most tip of South Africa heading northeast towards Port Elizabeth will take you 15 hours. Getting to Durban is yet another 15 hours up the coast. I don’t care how much time you have, there are human limits to length of time you can survive and maintain sanity on a bus. I know. I took a Greyhound in college once from Atlanta to Indianapolis and almost killed myself.

Both Durban and Port Elizabeth have beaches, so we won’t be complaining too much. I’m also anticipating a surreal like atmosphere surrounding the World Cup itself, and I think anywhere you can experience an event of that scale it is difficult to disappoint.

So friends, Manali + Terry will be in Port Elizabeth from June 21st – 23rd, and in Cape Town shortly before or after. Tickets are still available if you are interested!
