About a 30 minute walk/15 min bicycle ride from the pubs and restaurants, located in the north west corner of the old city, Gongkeuw Guesthouse was a vast change from bustling Bangkok. Staying in a brick bungalow with only the sounds of frogs and crickets, we relaxed and lulled into 5 nights of wonderful slumber here.

The private rooms were organized into self sufficient duplexes, dotted around a few acres complete with a pond, benches, lush green grass and a few adorable Shih Tzus. The owners were extremely helpful and accomodating, providing a free breakfast each morning and free coffee/tea/cocoa throughout the day.

Cost: 612 per day for a double with bathroom, if you pay in advance
Room: Very clean, padded king size bed with plush comforter. Cable TV.
Internet: Free wireless and 3 free computers to use in the common area
Laundry: 40B per load (10 kilos) to use the washing machine
Bike Rental: 50B per day, on site

This ‘apartment’ style hostel offers free wireless internet (certain times throughout the day), a small pool, spacious and well decorated double rooms and kitchens in each dorm room.
