Batik is abundant here in Indonesia, especially in Yogyakarta, the capital of Batik, which simplified is painting with wax and dyes. We booked a batik lesson through Via Via Café (great travelers meeting place with lots of activities) for the day and brought out our artistic sides. Our teachers, Suzie and Henri, have been batik-ing for generations and have a wonderful gallery boasting some fine art. Who knew that a simple 50cm x 50 cm painting could take all day?! It was definitely harder than it looks but we had a blast and with the help of our knowledgeable teachers, we produced some artwork worthy of hanging up in our home!
