Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown reminded us a lot of Breckenridge or Vail in Colorado, a cute little ski town yet bursting with activities all year round. Here, other than skiing and hiking, you can go speed jet boating, bungy jump into a river, sky dive over a lake, canyon swing or para glide off the ski slopes!

If extreme sports are not your thing, there are plenty of cafes and gourmet restaurants to feed that starving backpacker stomach! Boozing was also a very popular pastime among the hot, young and international crowd.

As a side note, we also learned that “freedom camping”, a controversial subject among the locals, was highly monitored in Queenstown as we got ‘busted’ by a local volunteer for parking and ‘camping’ overnight in a neighborhood! Oh well. We just moved to the next street! Hello New Zealand – to prevent freedom campers, how about adding public restrooms along the highways, increasing camping spots and lowering camp ground fees! Honestly, we have to give props to our most favorite corporate life savers, thank goodness for McDonalds! Always the prime 24 hour access to clean, free restrooms worldwide!
